For the first time since I started this book, I am writing scenes out of order. I finished with 70,000 words after this new draft, and it needed plumping up. I made a list of problems with the draft, and possible scenes that could be written to rectify them. It was an interesting exercise, trying to refer back to scenes and plot lines that had been deleted, looking for a way of revitalising them.

I’m well into the process now of reimagining and reconstructing the book: shifting structure, adding action, peppering in pretty prose (I like alliteration), and there is still so much to do before my soft deadline of getting it ready to submit to an agent by the end of the year.

Through my scholarship at Goldsboro Writing Academy, I get the chance to have a ‘practise run’ at the agent querying process.

… Renaming your child

The writing course has come to an end now, and I find myself scrambling to stay on track and finish this draft in time for my self-imposed deadline of the end of August.

I am crafting an (almost) entirely new version of my novel, after I was advised by the course leader to rework the plot with more action and pace. The main characters and ultimate goal remain intact, but it needed shaping into something more exciting,

… Reworking the story

I am happy to say that I am currently very focused on my writing, thanks to Goldsboro writing academy!

Late last year, I was following Gareth Brown on Instagram, when I noticed that he was offering scholarships to Goldsboro for underrepresented writers. It seemed the perfect way to get back on track with my writing, and to learn from other writers, both published and unpublished.
